Arnd
Arnd Martin Herz, MD
Founder/President

Arnd Herz is Chief of Pediatrics and Pediatric infectious Diseases at Kaiser Permanente in Hayward/Fremont. He also serves as Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF. He, together with his wife Susanne, is one of the founding members of House of Stone and has served as President since its inception in 2000. Additionally he serves as Advisory Board Member for HerzHD Foundation, our German partnership organization.

Susanne
Susanne Martin Herz, MD, MS
Treasurer/Founder

Susanne Martin Herz is a Pediatrician and doctoral student in Child Clinical Psychology. She is currently a fellow in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Seattle Children's Hospital and Bioethics Fellow in the Trueman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics. Along with her husband, Arnd, Susanne is one of the founders of House of Stone.

Rebecca
Rebecca Verity, MS
Secretary

Rebecca Verity has worked with not for profit environmental and humanitarian organisations for twenty years. She began her non profit career volunteering for the Mono Lake Committee and Santa Monica's Heal the Bay, raising funds for Amnesty International and marching with Cesar Chavez. She is currently an environmental consultant with an international consulting firm, and holds graduate degrees in oceanography and environmental microbiology. Rebecca comes from a family of sculptors and looks forward to the day when she can break her own stone working tools out of storage without danger of grave bodily harm to the "helpful" young children in her home.

Jean
Jean Heinrich Bolivar
Director of Education

Jean Heinrich Bolivar is an elementary library media specialist in Bellevue, Washington. She has worked as an educator for the last nine years. With her students, she helped develop House of Stones' twinning project. This project organizes the exchange of letters and friendship between school children in the US and Zimbabwe. Jean holds a Masters in Teaching from The Evergreen State College. It was while earning her BA in French that Jean developed a strong interest in Africa. She lives in Seattle with her family, cats, and chickens.

Nathan
Nathan Barton, PhD

Nathan Barton received his PhD in mechanical engineering from Cornell University, and currently works in materials science at a national laboratory. He is also an amateur sculptor who works in stone, bronze, and wire. His interest in the work done by House of Stone may have been shaped by a childhood as an army brat, traveling and living abroad, and working with community serve groups.

John
John Bolivar

John Bolivar received his BSc in Botany from the University of Washington and has a photography degree. He currently works as a professional photographer and webeditor. He is the former business owner of a coffee shop and sporting goods stores in Seattle. He is a board member of Sister Schools, a Seattle organization that supports children in Uganda. He has traveled twice to Uganda to see the needs of African children and some of the obstacles they face. He sees the same needs in Zimbabwe and sees a great way to provide assistance to the people of Zimbabwe via House of Stone.
