In the Zvimba District of Zimbabwe, a small orphanage
provides a safe home for up to 40 children. The children reside on
communal land, remain part of the community, attend a local school, and
learn farming skills on the land of the orphanage. Oversight is provided
locally by community elders and, more generally, by an expert and highly
trained Board of Trustees.

In 2006, Vimbainesu had approximately 30 children who
were divided into 2 family units, each with it’s own resident mother.
House Of Stone agreed to provide funding the year for three specific program
improvement projects: (1) to improve the quality of the family
environment and strengthen the children’s sense of belonging, (2) to improve
the overall self-sufficiency and sustainability of the home, and (3) to
prepare older children (16-18 years of age) to transition to life outside
the home. |

House Of Stone provided financial support for Vimbainesu
in 2001 and 2002. These funds paid for clothing, school fees, school
uniforms and supplies for all children residing at Vimbainesu. It also
covered orphanage operating costs and salaries for 2 full-time staff.
From 2003 to 2005 Vimbainesu received support through
HerzHD Foundation , a related German non-profit organization.

In 2007 House of Stone again decided to support 100% of
the Vimbainesu orphanage operating expenses. There are presently 26
orphans living at the home. In the past year their vegetable garden
became very productive, not only teaching the children farming skills and
skills towards self-sufficiency, but also adding some homegrown nutrition
to their diet.
